Our Fabrics

The fashion industry is often touted as one of the most polluting industries on the planet. We need to change this.

At Necesse, we are building a sustainable, ethical supply network that focuses on creating high quality, long-lasting, and eco-friendly garments. This means creating garments that are multifunctional, timeless, and designed to stand for as many seasons as possible. We want our clothing to work harder for us, so that we can consume (and impact our environment) less.

Now, actively helping the environment can be as simple as shopping more mindfully.

Our Silk Products

Silk’s Ecological Footprint

Our first collection is made from silk – considered to be one of the most sustainable fabric options available. The process of silk production, known as sericulture, is inherently low-impact and eco-friendly. Silkworms feed on mulberry leaves, a renewable resource that requires minimal water and pesticides. This sustainable cultivation ensures that our silk garments have a significantly lower environmental footprint compared to cotton or synthetic alternatives. Silk is also completely biodegradable, meaning that it won’t contribute to the ever-growing tonnes of landfill or ocean-bound waste.

Silk’s Longevity and High Quality

One of the standout features of silk is its incredible longevity. Silk fibres are among the strongest natural fibres, providing remarkable durability that withstands the test of time. Unlike fast-fashion fabrics that wear out quickly, our silk loungewear maintains its luxurious feel and appearance through countless wears. This durability translates to a wise investment in your wardrobe, as each piece retains its beauty and quality for years to come, provided it’s looked after according to our guidelines.

Breathability and Comfort

Silk’s natural breathability makes it an ideal choice for loungewear. The fabric allows for excellent air circulation, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This thermoregulating property ensures ultimate comfort regardless of the season. Silk is also hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin, making it perfect for those with sensitive skin or allergies.

Moisture-Wicking and Hydrating

Silk’s ability to wick moisture away from the body is another reason why it’s perfect for loungewear. It helps regulate body temperature by drawing moisture away, ensuring you stay dry and comfortable. Additionally, silk contains natural amino acids that are believed to be beneficial for skin health, retaining the skin's moisture and helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles (for when you’re considering the composition of a sleep mask).

Silk’s Luxurious Handfeel

Last, but certainly not least, is the fact that silk just feels incredibly sumptuous. We absolutely dare anyone to put on a piece of silk clothing and not do an immediate and involuntary shimmy of deliciousness. Silk is fluid, effortless, delicate-feeling, and sensual. Perfect for bedtime (or any time of the day, really).

But This is Only the Beginning

While using exclusively silk products is a great start, we have a long way to go. Ultimately, we’d like to become climate positive (meaning that we remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than we emit) as soon as possible. We have multiple pathways that we’re currently exploring to reach that goal, and we’ll keep you posted every step of the way.
